Willson Camp- Quartz Spring |
The Quartz Spring is the water source for the Willson Camp (formerly La Canada Hunting Club). The new Storage Tank overflow Trough is located in a secluded ravine, a great wildlife area. The Spring Box was constructed and installed by the 'Coe Park Springs Maintenance Team' in 1996. The old wooden tank was removed and replace with a 1100 gallon Storage Tank in 1997. The new Storage Tank was donated by the Mule Deer Foundation (MDF). During June, 2000 the Landmark volunteers moved the overflow trough from a point higher up in the ravine, down 25' to a position along the Lyman-Willson Ridge Trail. This will give horses and hikers easier and safer access to fresh water. On August 8, 2001 a group of Landmark Volunteers replaced the shallow trough with a full size 80 gallon trough, repaired plumbing damaged by pigs, and increased the size of the overflow plumbing to eliminate an overflow problem which resulted in a marshy area around the trough. They also assisted in installing a water spigot near the cabin to provide a water source for backcountry travelers. The water should be filtered or treated before drinking. |
