Rat Spring |
Rat Spring is a Seasonal water source located on the Rat Spring Trail midway between Willow Ridge Road and the Pacheco Creek Trail. The Spring is unique in that no Spring Box has ever been found for the trough. It is believed that the water accumulates in a hillside shale rock outcropping, is collected, and funneled with tiles into the plumbing leading to the Trough. In June 1998 the Spring Maintenance Team replaced an old fiberglass trough manufactured years ago by the Coit family with a new Rubbermaid Trough. During the Summer and Fall of 1999 this was only maintained spring site which had no water flowing. September 2000- The Spring site has been repaired and 'presently' has good water flow. An air pocket in the plumbing may be responsible for periodic flow stoppage. Further investigation is required. Keep in mind that the ultra-reliable Canteen Spring is 30 minutes down the trail. |
