Canteen Spring

The Canteen Spring is located in the Pacheco Creek Headwater Drainage, North of  Pacheco Camp, along the Canteen Spring Trail. The Spring sign, with canteen, is located at the intersection of the Pacheco Creek Trail, Dog Trail and Canteen Spring Trail, several hundred yards West of the trough.  This spring provides year-round flow to backcountry travelers and wild life in normal rain years.  The ravine between the spring sign and spring trough has an abundance of colorful wild flowers late into the summer.

During the Fall of 1998 a second spring site, upstream from the one shown was abandoned.  Its steel trough was relocated  to the present trough site.   In 1999, the steel trough was replaced with a Rubbermaid trough, the Spring Box was extended upwards 12", and 220' of thin wall PVC plumbing was replaced with heavier 2-1/2"  plumbing to alleviate chronic flow problems. This spring is much more dependable than nearby Rat and Rose Springs.
