Bear Spring

The Bear Spring was developed in the 1940's by the United States military to supply water to an Air Force lookout post  built nearby on Bear Mountain.  The spring is located on a short spur trail near the intersection of Bear Spring Road and Bear Spring Trail about one mile North of Mississippi Lake.  The spring  flows from an outcropping of rocks surrounded by wild roses and is the headwaters for the Mississippi Creek.  Bear Spring flows into Mississippi creek which in turn flows into Mississippi Lake (AKA Murray Lake) located one mile to the South.  Two Spring Boxes located 50' apart supply year-around water to the single trough.  An old unused concrete cistern and concrete trough are still in the area.  On 5-19-01 specially designed filters were installed in the two spring boxes to prevent leaves and debris from interrupting the water flow.
